ray/ray/ redesigned the office of Proctifin, an accounting firm, for 'Activity Based Working.' The activities of its 15 employees shaped a tailored facilities program. Despite challenges with an irregular ground plan and limited daylight, the ground floor features a calm work zone, multifunctional meeting area, and central volume with key amenities. The basement includes focus rooms and an informal interaction space. Sustainability was prioritized, with reused furniture and custom-designed eco-friendly elements.

Proctifin is an accounting firm, set up according to the principles of ‘Activity Based Working’. At the start of the project, the activities of the 15 employees were analysed, on the basis of which a programme of adapted facilities was drawn up.

Special design concerns were the irregular ground plan and limited daylighting.

On the ground floor, a central volume was added, dividing the space into a calm work zone at the front and a multifunctional meeting zone with open kitchen and team table at the back. The closed volume contains a phonebooth, meeting room and print corner. A seating area makes the link between the entrance and the existing meeting room for client meetings. Light materials and powder colours were chosen, with some contrasting elements.

No direct daylight enters the basement. Focus rooms were accommodated here: low-pressure cocoons in warm shades, where an employee can isolate himself undisturbed. An informal interaction room in contrasting dark blue completes the programme. In this flexible space with armchairs and footstools, the client can hold both a creative brainstorming session and a cinema evening with the team. The toilets, archives, cloakroom and lockers for employees were also located on level -1.

It was decided beforehand which elements could be retained. Loose furniture was reused as much as possible (ergonomic chairs, armchairs, etc) or updated (the team table consists of a recovered table leg with a new custom-made top).
The existing LED lighting was replanted, and radiators to be recovered were supplemented with new appliances based on a heat loss calculation. There were installed a high-efficiency boiler, and a new ventilation system with outdoor unit on the flat roof at the rear.

New elements were custom-designed, with attention to sustainability. The wooden components are made of ecological veneer of poplar and dark red stained European wood (as an alternative to exotic red woods).
